Local Library Links
Four items of special interest to
genealogists available on the Appleton Public Library site are the Post Crescent
Index which is a selective index of local events articles appearing in the
newspaper. Some entries date back to the 1850s. An Obituary Index is a partial
index to obituaries and death notices appearing in Appleton newspapers. The
Veterans' Grave Registration database provides information on over 500 Fox River
area deceased Veterans from the War of 1812 to World War I. The complete text
files of Ryan's History of Outagamie Country is found on the Fox Valley Memory
Library System (OWLS)
The Kaukauna Public Library is updating monthly, its index to a selective list of articles appearing in various Kaukauna
newspapers starting in 1880. Their web site also includes online viewing of
their postcard collection.
The local history/genealogy link provides
an extensive list of the local history (type: local history, in 'Quick Search) and genealogical resources available at
the Neenah Public Library. Included are two obituary indexes online.
Those holding a Neenah library card have home access to the electric resources
of Heritage Quest and Newspaper ARCHIVE Elite. Newspaper ARCHIVE Elite allows
you to search over 22,692,823 newspaper pages ranging in years from 1753 to 2004
from six countries.
Clicking on "internet links" followed by "genealogy" will bring you to a wealth of resources including access to online Winnebago County census records, an
expanding data base of obituaries, death notices and funeral notices published
in the Oshkosh Northwestern from 1900 -1999, a genealogical resource guide to
the library, and links to many Wisconsin resources. Those holding an Oshkosh library card have home access to Heritage Quest Online which includes census data, family records, local histories, military records and genealogical and local history magazines..
