A Butcher, a Baker or a Candlestick Maker?

What types of careers interest you? An airplane pilot, a video game designer, a teacher, a veterinarian, a professional athlete, or how about a police officer? Meet with an FVTC counselor and learn about exciting careers that await you as we show you how to explore the world of work!
Please Note: Session times for this workshop are based on age. 8:30 & 10:00 sessions are for 1st-5th grades, 12:30 session is for 6th grade and up.

Be a Spy! Making and Breaking Codes | SESSION 1 IS FULL (Session 2 still available)

Spies need to be able to exchange secret messages. We’ll build some tools to help exchange coded messages. Then we’ll see if you’re up to the challenge of breaking another spy’s code!

Business is Boring – NOT!

Do you think business is boring? Think again! Discover how to make important business decisions using a fun and games approach. Bring your creativity and get ready to make some big decisions.

Caring for Kids

Meet with the child care center leaders for the first 30 minutes to get a better understanding of child care. From there, you will work with the classroom teachers and interact with the children during their outdoors experience through planned activities and free play.
Limit 4 participants - state requires participants MUST be age 13 or over

Chinese Chopsticks Anyone?

Uncover the secrets to the Chinese culture:
  • Learn how to use chopsticks
  • Create a butterfly Origami
  • Exercise to Tai Chi 101
  • Discover the meanings behind the Zodiac signs
  • Learn about Chinese Holidays
  • Explore the language and learn basic Chinese greetings
  • Numbers-Counting 0-10
  • Review some culture do's and don’ts

Digital Photography – Say Cheese!

Learn how to use the features of a digital camera. Tips will be shared on how to take top notch pictures. Either bring your own camera or use ours. If you use our camera, bring a jump drive and we'll save your pictures to it for you.
Limit 8 participants per session - recommended for 3rd grade and up

Down and Dirty!

Tour the horticulture greenhouse and plant all the fixings you need to make a spaghetti dinner. See how the hydroponic plants grow in water and see, feel and even TASTE how cool horticulture is!

The FABulous Lab!

Fab Lab digital fabrication for the 21st century! Come and learn about 3D printers, routers and lasers. Design your own cool stuff!
Note: This is one long session over Sessions A and B (8:30-11:20). Limit 15 participants

Free Hall Pass

Did you know that FVTC has over 1,000 employees? Not only do we have teachers, we also have managers, secretaries, custodians, chefs, childcare providers, security officers and many more. Enjoy a free hall pass and investigate FVTC employees at work. Find out what a difference their jobs make. See firsthand why FVTC is not only a great place to learn, but a great place to work. On our tour you will see: Mail Services, Safety & Security, Shipping & Receiving, the Learning Resource Center, Human Resources, the Kitchen and the Child Care Center.

Get Energized – Boot Camp FUN Workout!

Join us for 60 minutes of FUN, ENERGY & CAMARADERIE during our boot camp workout. Go through stations that include agility, strength, flexibility, aerobic training, and partner activities. Come dressed to move: sneakers, athletic clothing and a water bottle are a must!

Hands-on Carpentry

Come join us in Oshkosh and participate in the construction of a full-scale house. Work alongside our carpenters, framing walls, covering the exterior, and installing hardwood flooring.
Limit of 12 participants. Van will depart Appleton at 12:00 p.m. SHARP for this session - return to Appleton around 2:20 p.m.

Paramedics in Action!

Learn what to do in an emergency. Tour the ambulance and get hands on experience with the equipment used to save lives. See your heart rate on our special TV monitor. Visit the EMS classroom and see EMS personnel in training.

Passport to Printing

Take a tour of FVTC's Printing Services department and see some of the cool equipment used in printing today! Join in a fun activity to learn about how printing works.

The Real CSI

Venture into the world of forensics today and you will experience what the real world of CSI (crime scene investigation) is all about. Students will see and experiment with the true science of fingerprints and shoeprints.

Rev Up Your Engines!

Would you like to see the inside of an engine? See what makes the machine move and make noise. Join our students and get a hands-on understanding of the fundamentals of small engine design in power sports recreational equipment (such as motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs and personal water crafts) using electronic equipment that is used in today's world as a Power Sport Technician.

Robots in Action | SESSION 3 IS FULL (Session 2 still available)

Most people have heard of R2-D2 and WALL-E, but what are real-life robots like? In this workshop, you will learn about robotics, engage in a fun engineering project, and have the chance to operate robots constructed from VEX robotics equipment.

Science is FUN | SESSION IS FULL

Explore various science topics in our science lab. Germs are everywhere! In this session you will be the scientist and will look at bacteria and try to figure out where, in your everyday life, the germs come from. You will also learn about how germs are transmitted from one person to another and the importance of proper hand washing. You will participate in an experiment to see if you are really getting your hands clean when you wash them. You will also do an experiment to extract DNA from a fruit smoothie (you may even get to sample the smoothie after your hard work in the lab).
Limit 12 participants ages 10 and up

Someone Call Security!

Get up close and personal with security cadets. See the inside of the security vehicle they use to patrol the campus grounds. Feel free to ask questions about what it’s like to be in charge of keeping our campus safe!

Turn Up the Heat – Be a Firefighter!

Join the FVTC Fire Training staff and the Grand Chute Fire Department to see what it means to be a firefighter. In this session, you'll learn about home fire safety, get to tour a fire truck and work with state of the art training technology to put out a virtual fire!

Want to Fly? Aviation Experience | SESSION IS FULL

The realism you'll experience during this brief intro flight in one of our Flight Training Devices will show you what it's like to pilot a real flight training aircraft used by the students in Fox Valley Technical College's Aeronautics Pilot Training program.
Limit 14 participants; van will depart Appleton at 8:00 a.m. SHARP for this session
