Work
Description
A
nursing assistant provides personal care for confined patients under
the supervision of nursing and medical staff. Some of the duties certified nursing
assistants do are:

Help
patients dress, bathe, & shave.
- Help patients in and out of
bed
- Help patients with walking or
wheelchairs
- Move patients to dining rooms or
other areas
- Change dirty
linens
- Serve meals and helping patients
eat
- Keep patients
records
- Take pulse and blood pressure
and record results
- Observe and report patients

Working
Conditions
Certified
nursing assistants are employed in health care facilities. They spend long hours standing and they
do heavy lifting. They must deal
with unpleasant sights, smells, and sounds. They must wear protective gloves and
clothing and have vaccinations to protect themselves against diseases. They risk
back injury when lifting and moving patients.

Nursing assistants work in nursing homes, hospitals, and home health care
agencies.
