Nursery and Landscape Contest

Nursery and Landscape Contest                 State Nursey & Landscape Contest
The purpose of the contest is to stimulate interest in Nursery Practices and Landscaping. The objectives of the contest are the same as those of the State Nursery/Landscape contests.

Description of the Contest

1. NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED!
2. A team will consist of three or four members. But the total of the top three (3) team members will determine the team score.
3. The contest will consist of two phases:
  a. A general knowledge examination consisting of 50 objective type, multiple choice questions that cover the areas of the Nursery/Landscape industry reflected in the current National FFA Career Development Event Handbook. Areas for testing include: plant materials, plant disorders, cultural practices, landscape design and construction, supplies and equipment, safety, equipment operation and maintenance, interpersonal relations (skills), salesmanship, records and reports. Each contestant will be allowed 50 minutes for this phase of the contest. Each question is worth one point.
  b. The identification of plant materials will consist of identifying up to 40 specimens listed on form 14, State FFA Career Development Nursery and Landscaping Plant Identification list. Each contestant will be allowed 30-40 minutes for this phase of the contest. Each plant is worth one point.
  c. Team problem-solving activity. Participants will compete as a team to solve an integrated problem associated with the industry. The team will have the freedom to use all information, organize themselves to solve the problem in their own way and determine how they will put their solution together.
4. The contest will start at 9:00 a.m., and tardiness will most likely cause late contestants to lose points.
5. Each contestant will need a #2 pencil.

Each school may enter two teams per contest. Please review the state FFA Career Development Events.
